Seven Heavens Challah

This special Shavuot challah, known as the Pan de los Siete Cielos, or Seven Heavens Challah, is an old sephardic tradition. I was introduced to it a few years ago by Rabbi Cantor Marcelo Gindlin, originally from Argentina, when we led a Shavuot class together for the Malibu Jewish Center & Synagogue. Now, I am excited to share it with you!
This challah tells the whole Shavuot story! The dome in the center represents Mount Sinai and the seven rings reflect the seven heavens or clouds. Other symbols narrate various aspects of the Shavuot story. Each family had their own traditions, and in this special challah class, we will follow that custom by creating our own symbolic imagery.
